Letter of introduction

Dear Professor Collins:

Born in Uzbekistan, I am eighteen years old and I came to the United States about six years ago. Despite being in the United States for six years, my English is poor. Unfortunately, I do not have any talents because I am not good at anything that I do. Getting accepted into Grove School of Engineering at City College is my achievement because I procrastinate a lot and do everything at the very last moment. I dream big but I do not really take any steps towards those dreams because I am being too lazy. Almost failing math last semester brought me back to reality and I am hoping to reduce my procrastination this semester.

I am a freshman who is majoring in electrical engineering. My major was kind of a last minute decision because at first I planned to major in nuclear physics but then my parents told me to go into electrical engineering. Getting a PhD would be my goal because I enjoy experimenting and discovering new things is very fascinating to me. It is really hard to imagine what my place will be in the future because the technology is advancing really fast and everything could change by the time I finish with my degree. As of today, I am hoping to do research in the future, where my dream is to discover something revolutionary. Nikola Tesla was a big inspiration. His inventions, like the Tesla coil and the alternating current, greatly influenced my interest in electricity. Since I am a fan of Nikola Tesla, one of the challenges that I would like to be involved in is figuring out a way for infinite energy. The first law of thermodynamics states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, because of this the energy is transferred to our surroundings which means there has to be a way to collect that energy. Colonization of Mars is another challenge that I would like to be involved in because we have to explore the universe and this would be the first step.

Best regards,
